Service ownership is basically everything. If you don't have owners assigned to manage your services, they can quickly start to take a dive in performance. But keeping everything up-to-date and accurate isn't always so easy, at least it wasn't before. This month OpsLevel shipped an exciting new service ownership feature plus many more updates to help teams streamline their day-to-day processes and keep those service levels high.
Bigs
Keep your catalog accurate and up-to-date with recommended service owners
With the release of the ownership suggestions, OpsLevel now includes a list of suggested owners for new services detected through git providers. The suggested owners are based on the top three contributing teams to that service. A tooltip describes the number of times each team member has contributed recently to help users make an informed decision when assigning ownership. This makes it much easier for users to ensure that every service is accurately assigned and up-to-date without having to spend valuable time hunting for answers.

New access role: Standard Admin
We're excited to introduce the new Standard Admin role in OpsLevel, tailored for team members managing service maturity programs without needing full admin rights. This role lets you safely expand access within your team while maintaining strict control over permissions, ensuring compliance with role-based access control (RBAC) standards. Deploy the Standard Admin role to enhance operational efficiency and safeguard your system's integrity.
Run Checks on packages to quickly identify vulnerabilities
You can now create checks for package versions by uploading a software bill of materials (SBOM) to OpsLevel. SBOMs are a data-rich list of all of the components included in your software. Now, when a new vulnerability or zero-day is announced, OpsLevel users can quickly assess the impact and begin remediation without having to waste precious time running a scan of their entire system.
Mediums
Easily create charts and diagrams from text in OpsLevel
OpsLevel now supports Mermaid in Markdown to quickly create charts and diagrams through text definitions. This saves a huge amount of time for developers who need to share complex information across teams. The new feature is available in:
- Tech docs
- Team/user/system/service/domain descriptions
- Check success/error messages
- And any place where Markdown is available in OpsLevel
Enable user notifications to stay ahead of checks before they fail
Users can now set reminders to send notifications via Slack and email when a check is about to expire. This new feature gives teams a more tailored and less tedious way to stay on top of their check maintenance, particularly if they are managing a high volume. Failing to curate checks leads to issues going unnoticed and an eventual loss in service levels.
Manage your newly detected services by date
Users can now sort service suggestions by the date they were detected. This helps teams quickly figure out which suggestions are newer and which ones have been lingering, helping users make better decisions on what to ignore or accept. This is especially useful for teams who have just added an integration and need to quickly assess everything associated with the new addition.
Get a fast overview of your checks
A new check report widget is now available on the dashboard. This report displays the top six checks that your team has deemed most important to focus on. This new feature gives users the ability to see immediately what they should be focused on when they log into OpsLevel and set team-wide priorities.
Quickly generate a services CSV report
Users can now generate a CSV file directly from the Services page. This new feature lets teams create and export a filtered list of services that can be used for projects such as assigning a set of failed checks to individuals rather than entire teams. Additionally, this allows users who do not code and cannot easily self-serve through the CLI or API to surface this data for shareable reporting.
